Ana C. Chávez has 15 plus years of rewarding healthcare experience ranging from direct to indirect patient care where the last 15 years has been in the capacity of a hospital interpreter. Ana earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles with the goal of working in the healthcare industry. She currently works at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles as a Language and Culture Specialist III and is a CHI Certified Healthcare Interpreter™.
Working in the healthcare industry in direct patient care over the course of the years has sparked an interest in technical writing and patient and family education in a hospital setting. Ana served as a chapter contributor on Mastering Patient & Family Education: A Healthcare Handbook for Success, by Lori C. Marshall, PhD, MSN.
Ana is very compassionate about patient education and greatly emphasizes on patient advocacy. Presently, she is serving the patient population in outpatient Hematology-Oncology. When not at work, Ana enjoys spending time with her family.
Eduardo Nunez has worked at The State of Kansas Department of Health and Environment as a Human Service Specialist, determining eligibility for Medicaid applicants. After enduring a critical time when his then 5-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer, Eduardo realized the importance of becoming a healthcare interpreter. Eduardo’s personal experience motivated him to complete Bridging the Gap medical interpreter training program in Lawrence, Kansas and became certified with the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI). Presently, Eduardo is a Language & Culture Specialist II at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles living his dream of serving the parents and their children as their interpreter with the goal of breaking language barriers with seamless communication. Eduardo likes to read and spend time with family in his spare free time.
Rosa Ortiz-Martinez is a Spanish Language & Cultural Specialist II at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. She has for the last 14 years worked in the department of Hematology/Oncology. Rosa attended California State University Los Angeles school of Legal Interpretation. Rosa has been interpreting for over 25 years in both legal and medical arena. She also has a background in social services, working in target areas such as substance abuse and prevention, case management and crisis intervention.
Rosa is very involved in her community and is passionate about promoting equality on both political and social issues that impact the Hispanic community.
During all the years of her Interpreting career Rosa has enjoyed working and providing her services to help facilitate communication in many different areas, and has had the privilege of working and meeting many talented and interesting people from all walks of life.
