About the topic: In this interactive workshop, we will examine the challenges that come up for interpreters in Workers’ Compensation medical appointments, including specialized acronyms and terminology; conflicting cultural concepts of pain; and sight translation of detailed questionnaires. We will also look at how the goal of communication in the medical-legal arena differs from other healthcare and legal settings, and how this impacts the role of the interpreting Workers' Compensation appointments. Attendees will participate in practical skill-building exercises including brainstorming terminology, sight translation, and script development to help interpreters handle any situation that may arise.
